Mainstem

In all the Mattole River is 62 miles long and is fed by 74 tributaries with 545 perennial stream miles.  A highly flashy river system, water flows range from 1000 cubic feet per second (cfs) to 4000cfs during the winter and below 60 cfs during the summer months.  Flooding is common in the Mattole where flows can reach an upwards of 90,000cfs (recorded during a 1955 flood).
