The
Mattole Salmon Group (MSG) represents the grass-roots restoration
movement at many local festivals and events. For many years, the
MSG has been a food vendor at Reggae
on the River (now named Reggae
Rising).
The
MSG has also been among the environmental information groups at
other events such as Earthdance,
the High Sierra Music
Festival, and the Salmon
Restoration Federation Conference.

The
MSG uses these opportunities to raise funds for restoration projects,
and to enhance public awareness about local salmon runs and ongoing
restoration efforts around the county.
In
continuation of this educational mission, the MSG hosts various
community outreach and fundraising events within the areas where
restoration work is being done. Events such as the Summer Steelhead
Dives and the Mardi Gras Crawfish Boil have been local favorites.

In
partnership with the
AmeriCorps Watershed Stewards Project and the Mattole
Ecological Education Program (MEEP), the MSG teaches local
school children the importance of salmon and healthy watersheds.
Classroom visits and field trips provide a hands-on learning experience
that connects children to their surroundings.
